Fear and Trust

Ps. 56:3-4, Ps. 57:1-2

When I am afraid, I will trust in You, in God whose Word I praise. There are times when uncertainty about prevailing circumstances leaves me in a fearful state. I am then tempted to give up or to give in especially when the odds are so highly stacked up against me. It is in these hours of despair that my feet slip and my knees give way. I find myself face down, in shame and despair rather than in worship.

When I am pursued by foes I cannot withstand, people close enough to my heart to gravely wound it, I have but one means of escape. When my heart is overwhelmed, I seek and find refuge under the shadow of His wings, until the violent storm (the disaster) has passed. Some may call it denial or escapism, but I call it Strategy. Whenever your adversary seems to have the upper hand, retreat to God’s shelter until He sends you out again to battle. Lie low, until it’s time to go.
